A look at Flavor Creation in Kennesaw, Geogia

by Eugene Buday

The small town of Kennesaw, Georgia enjoys the distinction of going "against the tide". On May 1, 1982, in response to the passage of a handgun ban in Morton Grove, Illinois, the Kennesaw City council passed some legislation of their own. Each head of a household in the city of Kennesaw is required to own and maintain a firearm, with ammunition, and know how to use it. It's the law in Kennesaw.

That was more than two dozen years ago, and the results of this lawmaking are impressive. Since 1982, overall crime for the city of Kennesaw is approximately half the state and national rates. Burglary incidents are approximately half the state and national rates, as well, probably because burglars aren't too keen on breaking into an armed person's house. Violent crime incidents are almost four times less than the state and national rates. Since 1982, less than 2% of crimes committed in Kennesaw involved a firearm. In fact, an off-duty policewoman who caught her husband cheating on her did the last shooting in Kennesaw.

Now, you may ask, "what does this have to do with Flavor Creation?"

GSB Flavor Creators was incorporated in November 1984 and we moved into our first facility in the city of Kennesaw in September of 1987.

In all this time, we only used our weapons once, and that was when a member of our taste panel insisted that the competitor's sample was better than ours. Ever since that experience, our sensory panels always agree with the Flavor Chemists. In fact we don't even need to run panel tests any more since we always know what the results will be. We hardly ever argue at work, as we all pack our Colt 45's, and never turn our backs on each other. Gets a little awkward when we have visitor, but they don't stay long.

Our sales department always comes back with an order, even if they write it for a fictitious customer and pay the invoice themselves. Great for the bottom line!

The atmosphere created is one of great calmness, knowing that no one will give you an argument about your work while you're armed, and that everything you create is the greatest man ever made. It gives you a stupendous feeling of euphoria and makes you wonder why you waited so long to come to Kennesaw, Georgia to work at creating flavors.

And then, at 5 p.m., you go home, leaving the beautiful city of Kennesaw to become a mere mortal again, until tomorrow!
