By
the time you are reading this newsletter, the summer will be almost
over and we will be getting ready for our September meeting.
To put you up to speed in the news since our last edition:
a) a new Board of Directors for 2002-2003 was nominated and elected
in our annual meeting in May and
b) we had a great breakfast meeting at IFT in Anaheim. For those
that have to wake up early in the morning to attend our meeting,
it was worthy because Kim Magin from Monsanto gave us an excellent
overview of Biotechnology nowadays.
Nevertheless,
this is an outline of what you will find in this edition.
PRESIDENT'S
LETTER. I struggled to find the right title for this edition
until I read Joan Harvey's president's letter. Her enthusiasm
is so contagious that it motivated me. I invite you to read it
and hopefully it will motivate you to participate in the growth
of the Society.
PROGRAM
COMMITTEE REPORT. Ed Albaugh is presenting the description
of next season's programs. Hopefully you will be able to join
us in as many of these educational sessions that he has prepared
throughout the year.
NEW MEMBERS AND UPGRADES. This time
we welcome a new apprentice member and congratulate two new certificate
members. Please read their bios in our dedicated section.
CONTRIBUTORS:
This edition's contributors are Deborah Groendyk
and Gerard Mosciano. Deborah is a new contributor
to the Society News, she promises to treat us with information
in her new column Botanicals, etc.
Her first article, Botanicals in Flavors, will introduce you to
a world of unlimited possibilities in flavor creation. Of course
everyone should be familiar with Gerard Mosciano. Gerard brings
us an article for our Cybermania
column about a new web site "Food Navigator" that has
a wealth of information on food industry news, updates and product
introductions. If you would like to learn more about our contributors,
I could add a column with a short self-biography. Comments?
CORRESPONDENCE:
This happened like right out of a movie scene, I got last-minute-news
and I had to call the printer shop and tell them to STOP THE
PRESS! Seriously, Carole Pollock sent me a letter
and we were going to try to include it in this edition...and we
did. Please read Carole's letter inside. I am sure that most of
you are familiar with Carole Pollock, she is truly an icon in
the Flavor Business. Well, Carole is facing a new career challenge:
she is retiring. Please join me to send her a big applause and
best wishes in her next step. We will miss you!
I hope you
enjoy this newsletter. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
